The Hope College Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland will continue its tradition of showing contemporary and independent films with a film series featuring four films each for a one-week run from March 3 through April 12, including two films nominated for the 2025 Academy Awards.
The series includes Ghostlight (March 3亚洲色吧�8), We Live in Time (March 10亚洲色吧�15), I亚洲色吧檓 Still Here (March 31亚洲色吧揂pril 5) and The Seed of the Sacred Fig (April 7亚洲色吧�12). All films will be shown at 7 p.m.
Ghostlight, running March 3亚洲色吧�8, follows Dan Mueller, a grieving construction worker, who unexpectedly joins a community theater production of Romeo and Juliet, finding solace and a renewed sense of purpose amidst his personal struggles. As he immerses himself in the play, the on-stage drama mirrors his own life, forcing him to confront his emotional distress and reconnect with his family. The film, which is in English, is rated R and has a run-time of 115 minutes.
We Live in Time, showing March 10亚洲色吧�15, is a deeply emotional romantic drama that unfolds in a non-linear fashion, charting the course of the relationship between Tobias (Andrew Garfield) and Almut (Florence Pugh). The film captures their love story, from their initial unconventional meeting to the challenges they face. The narrative weaves together snapshots of their lives, highlighting their shared moments of joy, love and hardship. The film, which is in English, is rated R and has a run-time of 107 minutes.
I亚洲色吧檓 Still Here, nominated for three Academy Awards, runs March 31亚洲色吧揂pril 5 and powerfully depicts the true story of Eunice Paiva and her family亚洲色吧檚 struggle during Brazil亚洲色吧檚 military dictatorship, focusing on her unwavering quest to uncover the truth about the forced disappearance of her husband, Rubens Paiva. The film portrays the family亚洲色吧檚 resilience amidst political oppression, highlighting Eunice亚洲色吧檚 relentless fight for justice and the emotional toll taken by the regime亚洲色吧檚 actions. The film, which is in Portuguese with English subtitles, is rated PG-13 and has a run-time of 136 minutes.
The Seed of the Sacred Fig, also nominated for an Academy Award, shows April 7亚洲色吧�12 and follows the story of Iman, a devout lawyer, appointed as an investigating judge in Tehran亚洲色吧檚 Revolutionary Court, offering his family a better life. However, he soon realizes his role is to approve harsh sentences without question. As nationwide protests escalate, tensions rise within his household. When his gun goes missing, he suspects his wife and daughters, imposing harsh measures that fray family ties. The film, which is in Persian with English subtitles, is rated PG-13 and has a run-time of 167 minutes.

Tickets are $9 for regular admission, $7 for senior citizens and Hope faculty and staff, and free for Hope students.
